A message from the Vietnamese Student Association, University of Texas at Austin
June 12, 2008
Dear Respected Austin Community Member,
The Vietnamese Students Association is an organization at the University of Texas that strives to keep its Vietnamese heritage within the reach of its members. With the start of a new year where we have elected and appointed new officers, and our primary mission is to create more awareness among our members in terms of social and cultural issues affecting Vietnamese Americans today. It is our belief that this is an important aspect of being a Vietnamese American, and we feel it is our duty as representatives of VSA to increase this awareness.
The first step to bringing about more social cultural awareness to our members is becoming more aware ourselves. This summer, we are attending the Fifth Annual Conference sponsored by the Union of North American Vietnamese Students Associations (uNAVSA). uNAVSA is a non-profit organization for Vietnamese youth organizations from across North America to network and collaborate on philanthropic projects. This year the conference is located in Portland, Oregon from July 31st to August 3rd. At this conference, we will be building leadership skills, improving our organizational management abilities, and becoming more educated about social and cultural issues affecting the Vietnamese American community.
All expenses, such as plane tickets, housing costs, as well as a registration fees per person, must come from out of our own pockets. Our goal is to raise $1500. With the expectation to become more aware of issues involving Vietnamese people, we are grateful for any available amount you will be able to contribute. On behalf of the Vietnamese Students Association, we thank you in advance for your contribution.
Sincerely,
Vietnamese Student
Association, The University of Texas at Austin
